Homemade White Corn Tortilla Chips

You know those really delicious tortilla chips that you get at a nice Mexican restaurant? Not the ones from the strip mall Mexican place with half priced margaritas daily from 3-6, but the ones from the higher end Mexican places. There just isn’t anything like them, but now you can make them at home!

It’s really quite simple…cut up some small corn tortillas with a pizza cutter, fry for about a minute per side in some hot vegetable oil, season and dip into your favorite salsa, queso or guacamole. Done!

Season Them with Your Favorite Flavor

Traditionally tortilla chips are loaded with flaky sea salt, but don’t stop there if you want something a little more original. Below are a few other ideas to season your chips with:

This recipe serves 2. Every tortilla shell makes 6 chips so increase your tortillas if you’d like more than the 30 chips the recipe makes.

Ingredients

  • 5 white corn tortilla shells
  • ½ c vegetable oil
  • Sea salt for flavoring

Instructions

  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium heat.
  • Using a pizza cutter, cut tortilla shells into 6 equal triangles.
  • Drop tortilla triangles into hot oil in a single layer.
  • Flip after about 1-2 minutes or when you start to see the edges of the tortilla shells turning to light brown.
  • Let the tortilla chips cook for about a minute on the flip side.
  • Using tongs, remove tortilla chips from hot oil and place in a bowl with a paper towel to dab off some of the excess oil.
  • Salt immediately for best results and dip into your favorite salsa or queso!
